Opening in the cosmopolitan Hiroo district of Tokyo in September 2005, this year EMON Photo Gallery welcomes 10 years of operation as a commercial gallery.

What is the Japanese photograph? And that which inspires it? This country of Japan, with its ebb and flow of tradition and revolution, and desire for western culture, has historically also been home to artists with a resolute and vibrant creativity that continues today. I seek to discover this creative spirit via a photographic and artistic framework, and use it to convey Japanese stop-motion art and photography to the world.

Encounters with photographers in possession of a unique individuality—it is easy for me to recognise that such encounters, above all else, are what drive me to push on past the mere dreaming of dreams, to be a gallery that creates something undeniable, however small it may be.

The five artists I chose to present in Fraction Magazine Japan all keep the everyday world at arm’s reach, and each create with their own unique and individual worldview. I believe they are photographers with a bright future. Please do not hesitate to contact the gallery with any questions regarding these artists and their work.
