A Ballad in Gray
by Takashi Nishimura

When I want to draw I pick up my pen, and when I want to photograph I take up my
camera. To start with, that’s all I need to know to be content. From there I take my
ideas as they come to me, one by one, and give them shape under the sway of a great
mix of coincidences, inevitabilities, and possibilities.

This series, too, is a product of accident brought on by illusion. It’s a product of the
amazing wizardry of photography to carry us from reality to dreams and back again, all
in an instant.

We often ask what it means to express ourselves, but my hope with my creations is to
take myself farther and farther away from that sort of superficial inquiry.
