Sunamachi
by Mitsugu Ohnishi

About three kilometers West of the Kitajukken river that flows past Tokyo Sky Tree and East of where the Sumida and Arakawa rivers meet lies a crowded little town called Sunamachi.I feel the changes the bubble economy brought to much of Tokyo in the 1970’s and 1980’s, the emotional sense one gets from Sunamachi never really changed. For me this feeling that permeates this town is comprised of two seemingly conflicting halves; a sense of density and a sense of loneliness.
